I recently had the chance to attend a two-day masterclass with Jaguar Land Rover, which was organised by the AAPS CDT. The masterclass was full of hands-on learning experiences and expert lectures from a team of JLR engineers.
On the first day of the masterclass, we headed to Thruxton Motorsport Centre where we got to see JLR's new all-electric vehicle, the I-PACE, in action. In the morning, the engineers started by giving us a detailed overview of the electrical and control systems that power the I-pace. In the afternoon we observed on-track testing, participated in collecting data and making observations that we would use during the second day of the masterclass to analyse energy consumption.
The second day was focused on analysing the data we collected during the testing. For this, we used MATLAB to write a script that took the velocity and time data and calculated the difference in energy consumption when the cooling fins were open or closed. Additionally, we also briefly discussed the business, marketing, and customer experience aspects of electric vehicles. This was a great opportunity for me to learn about real life vehicle testing, data processing methods and the holistic perspective of electric vehicles.
The JLR masterclass was a great experience for me. I learned a lot about electric vehicles and the technology behind them, as well as the data processing methods used in vehicle testing. I would recommend this masterclass to anyone interested in the automotive industry or the future of transportation.
