Immanuel graduated at Bath University with a MSc in Automotive Engineering in 2019, having previously studied Motorsport Engineering at Oxford Brookes University. He combined his studies at Bath with working at BMW Motorsport as a Performance and Chassis engineer as well as a component and design analyst. Due to his Motorsport background, both as a racing driver and engineer, combined with a strong personal interest in fuels and combustion engines, he chose to undertake a simulation project at Bath University dealing with engine performance of a high-performance combustion engine when converted to ethanol E85 and LPG Fuel. Furthermore, as part of his dissertation, he conducted a life cycle assessment of a dual-biofuel production plant, producing biodiesel and renewable methanol. As part of the AAPS CDT programme he aims to undertake research in sustainable combustion engine technologies.

Name Description Date
AAPS ITT1

AAPS ITT1 took place in collaboration with external partners from AVL in the centre of Bath. Academics, students and industry representatives work collaboratively in groups throughout the week to describe and formulate real-life industrial problems into research proposals. During the ITT Students gained research distillation, presentation and group working skills.

Peer Mentor Training - Cohort 1

Each student is assigned a peer mentor when they join the programme, and then subsequently become a peer mentor to the following intake of students. Peer mentoring training is delivered by the Student Union to provide students with key insights on how to be a good mentor such as being a good active listener and a set of psychological models that can be used to encourage reflective discussions.

RRI Training - Cohort 1

Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is an important part of the AAPS CDT’s training programme, so each student undertakes a introduction to RRI to be able to understand and explain the concept of RRI, the importance of RRI and to illustrate how RRI principles can be implemented

AAPS ITT4

AAPS ITT4 took place in collaboration with external partners from National Express. Academics, students and industry representatives work collaboratively in groups throughout the week to describe and formulate real-life industrial problems into research proposals. During the ITT Students gained research distillation, presentation and group working skills.

Summer Masterclass - LCA

AAPS CDT Students attended a summer masterclass on the topic of LCA, where they gained an overview of sustainability and learn the theory of LCA (attributional, consequential, use in existing and emerging technology/materials) and looked into different case studies.

06/07/2021
- 14/07/2021
Summer Masterclass - Low Carbon Fuels

AAPS CDT Students attended a summer masterclass on the theme Low Carbon Fuels, where they learnt about the chemistry behind conventional fuels and what they actually are, what each family of components do and used this as a platform to overview the main routes to future renewable transport fuels. This masterclass also gave an introduction to Hydrogen.

26/07/2021
Summer Masterclass - Gas Purification

AAPS CDT Students attended a summer masterclass on the theme Gas Purification where they learnt about different technologies for air cleaning, reduction of emissions and treatment of exhaust gas and gained an understanding in the differences between new and traditional technologies in terms of emissions.

29/07/2021
RRI Joint CDT Workshop

Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is an important part of the AAPS CDT’s training programme. AAPS partnered with the Sustainable Electric Propulsion CDT to deliver both sets of students a debating training session focused on some contentious topics in the sector.
